Sourdough Recipe |
Sourdough Starter (Dr. Alex uses Cultures for Health “Whole Wheat Sourdough Starter”)
Whole Wheat Flour
Water
Salt
Olive oil
Instructions:
Phase one-Take 1/4 cup of the starter and mix in 1/2 cup of the flour. Next, add in enough water to create a doughy consistency. Dr. Alex likes to keep this mixture in a jar as he will then cover it with saran wrap so that the dough can breath. Let it sit at room temperature for 8-12 hours.
Phase 2- Place your rested starter in a mixing bowl and add in 1-1 1/2 cups flour with enough water to create a doughy consistency. Cover the mixing bowl with saran wrap so that the dough can breath. Let it sit at room temperature for 8-12 hours.
Phase 3- To the starter add 4 teaspoons salt, 1/2 cup olive oil, and enough water to create a wet, doughy consistency. Mix this together with your hands and then let it sit for 6 hours.
Phase 4- With your hands wet, form the dough into a loaf. Once it is formed, place it on parchment paper and cover it with saran wrap so it can breathe. Let it sit for 2 hours. Preheat the oven to 450 degrees and transport the loaf to a dutch oven. Dr. Alex grabs the corners of the parchment paper and moves it with the loaf on it to the dutch oven. Place it in the over and let bake for 25 minutes. Once this is complete, change the heat to 350 degrees and bake for 35 more minutes.
